The City of Yonkers is divided into six water districts which are billed two times a year.

The current water rate is $4.04 per 100 cubic feet. The current sewer rate is $1.00 per 100 cubic feet.

The current Basic Service Charge is $126.58 per billing cycle.

Water Billing Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will I receive my water bill?

A: The City of Yonkers is divided into six water districts which are billed two times a year.
The first digit of your water account number represents the district number.

If your account starts with the Number 1, you will be billed on January 31 and July 31.
If your account starts with the Number 2, you will be billed on February 28 and August 31.
If your account starts with the Number 3, you will be billed on March 31 and September 30.
If your account starts with the Number 4, you will be billed on April 30 and October 31.
If your account starts with the Number 5, you will be billed on May 31 and November 30.
If your account starts with the Number 6, you will be billed on June 30 and December 31.

Q: Aren’t water bills taken care of by my mortgage company?

A: No, as the property owner you are responsible to make direct payments.

Q: What information is important to review on my water bill?

A: The middle portion of your water bill shows detailed information about your charges. See example of water bill above.

Q: My bill says “Estimate”, what do I do next?

A: If your bill says “Estimate” in the field marked ‘Reading Type’ this means the billing department was unable to obtain an actual meter reading for your meter. Please call the Water Meter Repair Shop at (914) 377-6741 to schedule an appointment to have an inspection performed.

Q: Why am I having an issue paying online or over the phone?

A: For online payments make sure you entering your 7 digit water account number without using spaces, dashes or any special characters.

You cannot pay by phone if your water bill is past due.

Q: I received an arrears letter regarding a delinquent payment but I paid this bill. What do I do next?

A: Please make a copy of the Front & Back of your check and any receipts then mail the documents along with a letter to:

Q: What is the interest charge on my outstanding water bill?

A: 15% simple interest annually is charged from the bill date.

Q: How many gallons in one cubic foot?

A: There are 7.48 gallons in one cubic foot

Q: I just purchased a property, how can I update the owner information?

A: Once the filing of the NY State Transfer Tax has been verified, the Water Billing Department will be notified of the change in ownership. A new account will be setup with your name and mailing address then a letter mailed with your account information. If you do not receive a letter from Water Billing regarding your water account within 6-8 weeks of the property sale please call (914) 377-6148, 6145.

Q: How can I update my mailing address for my water bill?

A: Address changes/updates must be submitted in writing to Water Billing directly along with a copy of your driver’s license or proof of ownership/power of attorney.

Please include the following:
• Name
• Property address (Location)
• Mailing address (if different from property location)
• Phone Number
• Copy of Driver’s License.

A: Owners can submit a request by:

Q: How do I request a final reading of my water meter for a property sale?

A: A final water bill may be requested one day prior to the closing date or the day of closing. Please call (914) 377-6148, 6145 and have your water account number on hand.  

Q: How can I receive water billing information?

A: Anyone, including Title and Mortgage Companies, can come in to research outstanding water bills on a property for free in the Assessment office, Room 100 in City Hall. There is a $5.00 fee per property per year for Water Billing to research the Property. No information will be provided by phone or e-mail without a processed fee. Please allow a two week lead time.
