YONKERS, NY – March 25, 2020 – The City of Yonkers today released a public service announcement (PSA)featuring Yonkers residents, students, community leaders and activists urging residents to participate in the 2020 Census. The PSA will run online on the city's social media accounts, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram,@CityofYonkers, and on-air during the critical self-response period of the census starting in late-March.

"We know to truly reach our residents, they need to hear from trusted voices who represent their communities," said Mayor Mike Spano. "This spot shows Yonkers rich and robust cultures representative of the many different ethnicities in our city, especially those in historically undercounted communities.”
"The 2020 Census is critical for every city in America, but mid-sized cities like Yonkers depend on it a bit more," added Mayor Mike Spano. “There are tens of millions of dollars at risk for programs and services many of us use every day, including schools and hospitals.”

Invitations to participate in the 2020 Census have been mailed to every household in the country.  Each household will have the option of responding online, by mail or by phone (1-844-330-2020). If residents misplaced their invitations, they can visit [www.2020Census.gov]www.2020Census.gov. For more information visit www.2020Census.gov or call 1-800-330-2020.

In June 2019, Mayor Spano established the Yonkers Complete Count Committee to ensure a complete and accurate count of Yonkers residents in the 2020 Census.

About the Yonkers Complete Count Committee
The Yonkers 2020 Complete Count Committee is comprised of a broad spectrum of government and community leaders from education, business, faith-based, and other community organizations. These individuals develop and implement a 2020 Census awareness campaign based upon their knowledge of the local community to encourage a response. The Committee also continue to connect with local residents for Census job opportunities currently available.
