Yonkers, NY – March 13, 2020 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that he has issued a state of emergency in the City of Yonkers, effective immediately, to handle the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, known as coronavirus.

"As our country, state and city continue to manage the spread of COVID-19, I have declared a state of emergency in Yonkers,” said Mayor Spano.“This declaration allows the city to expedite emergency purchases of supplies when needed as we continue to navigate the unchartered waters of this pandemic.”

Yesterday, Mayor Spano announced several closures and cancellations of city sponsored events and programs in its efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. Yonkers has canceled non-essential programs/facilities to limit public interaction among residents, especially ones involving those who are at high risk of contracting the virus. Yonkers will monitor the impact of the virus and continue to reassess the programs and facilities in the coming weeks. For a full list of closures and cancellations, visit www.yonkersny.gov.

As of March 13, Yonkers has six confirmed cases of COVID-19.
