YONKERS, NY – October 15, 2019 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today unveiled ten new bicycle repair stations installed throughout the city, which will serve cyclists who are in need of quick repairs.

Each bike repair station is equipped with an air pump with a gauge, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, a wrench and a multi-purpose tool so cyclists can make adjustments to their bikes while riding throughout the city.

“We are continually working to make Yonkers more bike friendly,” said Mayor Spano. “Complimenting city bike lanes and a bike share program, these repair stations add to the growing list of initiatives supported by the city to ensure that residents and visitors take to the streets, parks and pathways as a means of exercise, relaxation and fun.”

Each of the ten stations is made of recycled and repurposed materials, hand crafted by the Yonkers Department of Public Works. Recycled fence pipe, fence pipe end caps, rubber top and end grips and scrap metal are used to assembly the stations. Each station costs approximately $410 as compared as much as $6000 if bought commercially.
