City of Yonkers Recognized as Arbor Day Foundation’s 2018 Tree City USA Community

YONKERS, NY – June 26, 2019 – City of Yonkers has been recognized as a 2018 Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation for the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management. Yonkers has been designated a Tree City USA for the past 31 years.

“Yonkers continues to lead the way in our efforts in providing cleaner and healthier communities for our residents to enjoy,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Thank you to our Department of Yonkers Parks, Recreation & Conservation for continually planting, maintaining and improving the our quality of life and helping Yonkers remain a great place to live, work and play.”

More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. Yonkers achieved Tree City USA status by meeting the four core standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters: 

Standard 1: A Tree Board or Department

Standard 2: A Tree Care Ordinance

Standard 3: A Community Forestry Program with an Annual Budget of at least $2 per capita

Standard 4: An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation
