Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board Launches New “Top High School Youth Service” Award Honoring Yonkers’ Young Volunteers

YONKERS, NY – APRIL 11, 2019 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board is accepting nominations for its new “Top High School Youth Service” Award,  which will recognize four of Yonkers’ top high school student volunteers of 2019. The award will be presented to students in grades 9-12 who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service while positively impacted the lives of Yonkers residents throughout the 2018-2019 school year.

“So often it is our high school students who volunteer and give so much of themselves outside of their school day to ensure Yonkers becomes a better city in which to live, work and play. They are our future community leaders, educators and agents of social change. I applaud our Youth Advisory Board for providing an opportunity to honoring these young civic leaders,” said Mayor Mike Spano.

Award Criteria

-Recipients should be currently enrolled in grades 9-12 (Yonkers Public or Private High School)

-Current Report Card

-Unpaid Community Service History which demonstrates their excellence in volunteerism in Yonkers throughout the 2018-2019 school year

Students are  encouraged to apply at https://www.yonkersny.gov/youthaward and highlight their accomplishments while expressing why they are most deserving as a Top High School Volunteer. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, May 3rd; the award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd at 4:00 pm at Yonkers City Hall, Mayor’s Reception Room.
