COUNCIL PRESIDENT KHADER CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACKS IN JORDAN, CALLS FOR MOMENT OF SILENCE
YONKERS, NY – Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Al Fuheis, Jordan, where terrorists set off bombs at a music festival, leading to a deadly shootout with Jordanian security forces.
“The attacks that occurred in Jordan over the weekend were disgusting acts of terrorism,” said Council President Khader. “As a proud Jordanian American, my thoughts are with the victims of these horrific attacks, as well as their families, first responders, and security personnel. The City of Yonkers is home to a large Jordanian American community, many of whom still have family in Jordan; I urge the citizens of Yonkers to stand with the people of Jordan both here in Yonkers, and abroad.”
“The Arab-American community of Yonkers stands against these acts of terrorism,” added Jordanian American community leader Dr. Ammir Rabadi. “Our ancestral home of Jordan is under attack by extremists sympathetic to the Islamic State, a known terrorist organization responsible for countless deaths across the Middle East. With so many members of the Arab-American community of Yonkers still having family in Jordan, I ask the people of Yonkers for your support and solidarity at this challenging time.”
A remembrance event will be held at Yonkers City Hall at the Unity Fountain on Saturday, August 18th at 12:00PM.
“I strongly encourage the Yonkers community to join us at City Hall, and support our Jordanian neighbors during this challenging time,” said Council President Khader. “Your prayers and support are most appreciated as we mourn this gruesome attack.”
