Mayor Spano presents Robert C. Dodson School with March 2018 School of the Month Award
YONKERS, NY – April 12, 2018 – Mayor Spano joined members of Yonkers City Council, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada and Yonkers Federation of Teachers President Samantha Rosado-Ciriello, to present the School of the Month Award for March 2018 in the City of Yonkers to the deserving administration, faculty, staff, parents and students of Robert C. Dodson School. Under the leadership of Principal Evelina Medina, Robert C. Dodson is achieving great success with their Dual Language/Two-Way Bilingual and Transitional Bilingual Education Program. The programs offer both English language learners and English proficient students the opportunity for academic achievement in a setting where both English and Spanish are used throughout the year.
In addition, Robert C. Dodson has been at the forefront of computer based learning in the Yonkers Public School District, and this week was the first school in Westchester County to participate in state testing entirely through the internet.
Robert C. Dodson has also been engaged in several community partnerships that help others in the community, including the Pajama Program, which has donated hundreds of pajamas and books to children in the City of Yonkers and beyond.
“Robert C. Dodson, under the leadership of Principal Evelina Medina, is setting the bar in terms of academic achievement and community engagement,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “The administrators, teachers and staff should be proud of the work they’ve accomplished thus far. By affording our students the opportunity to find their passion, they’re cultivating a learning environment that students want to come to each and every day.”
“The progressive social, emotional and academic growth of Robert C. Dodson’s students is a magnificent example of our elementary schools’ successes this academic school year in Yonkers,” noted Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, Superintendent of Schools. Principal Medina fosters relationships among the entire learning community by establishing challenging goals and promoting volunteerism.”
Mayor Spano’s School of the Month recognition program began in January 2014 as a way to celebrate the significant academic success, extracurricular achievements and community volunteerism of Yonkers’ students, teachers, administration and staff at Yonkers Public Schools.
