YONKERS, NY – January 30, 2018 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the New York State Arborists Association has honored City of Yonkers Arborist Ralph Padilla with the 2018 New York State Distinguished Arborist Award for the International Society of Arboriculture Chapter. The award is presented every year to a respected individual who has furthered arboriculture in New York State.
As the City Arborist employed under the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Padilla is responsible for the care of public trees throughout the City, including the planting, nurturing and maintaining of shrubs, vines, and other perennial woody plants throughout Yonkers. In addition, Padilla coordinates all tree pruning efforts, along with the necessary removing and disease monitoring of City trees.
“Ralph Padilla has been a critical component in moving our City in the right direction environmentally,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Ralph’s efforts have led to the important maintenance and preservation of thousands of trees in Yonkers and have helped in making us a better place to live, work and play.”
Prior to his appointment as the City’s Arborist in 2013, Padilla was the Owner/Operator of Padilla Tree Inc. and for ten years was the Arborist for the New York Botanical Gardens. He is a Certified Tree Care Specialist, an accredited Organic Land Care Professional and a Certified Arborist, as well extensive credentials in Tree Risk Assessment.
“I’d like to congratulate Ralph Padilla on this special award,” said Yonkers Parks Commissioner, Anthony Landi. “Ralph contributes to the beautification of the City of Yonkers on a daily basis and so much of the exceptional landscaping our residents enjoy is because of Ralph’s hard work.”
Padilla was presented with the award on Monday, January 29th at the 2018 NYSA Annual Conference in Suffern, New York.
