City Council President hits the ground running
Yonkers, N.Y.-- Council President Mike Khader has hit the ground running during his first week on the job.
In a bipartisan manner Khader, who assumed office on Monday, has spearheaded the creation of three new committees.
- Committee on Labor will be a platform for union leaders to appear before the city council to voice concerns about workplace conditions, staffing, and employee morale.
- Committee on Government Operations and Oversight ensures the efficiency, effectiveness and accountability of the city government and all its agencies and departments.
- Committee on Commerce and Smart Growth works to ensure the City’s management of growth and development integrates the community’s economic, social and environmental interests.
"With the creation of these committees, I hope to show the people of Yonkers how serious I take my duties as council president," said Council President Khader. "Our workers will have a voice, our government will finally be accountable to taxpayers and residents, and Yonkers will become a place of booming business. I'd like to thank all council members for recognizing the importance of these initiatives and working in a bipartisan manner. Rest assured, this is only the beginning."
