YONKERS, NY – June 7, 2017 –
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that the American Society of Civil Engineers will be honoring Yonkers City Engineer Paul Summerfield with the William A. Welch Award at its upcoming awards dinner this month. The award is given to an individual who has shown outstanding performance in the field of civil engineering in government.

Summerfield is a licensed New York State professional engineer with more than 30 years of experience. Summerfield is the lead engineer for the City of Yonkers and supervises a department of 26 while providing professional engineering services to the city.

“Paul Summerfield and the entire engineering department have been a critical component in moving our city in the right direction over the course of my administration – through their innovative designs and award-winning advances including the Saw-Mill River daylighting project,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Paul has increased Yonkers’ ability to attract new residents, visitors and businesses, making it an even better place to live, work and play.”

Summerfield oversees numerous city infrastructure designs and construction projects, including road and bridge construction and reconstruction, traffic engineering, water mains, storm and sanitary sewers and construction of city buildings, waterfront and parks facilities.

In addition to Summerfield’s impressive work experience, he is also a member of several boards and committees, including The National Society of Professional Engineers and the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, where he once served as the director of the Westchester County Chapter.

“I’d like to thank the Lower Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers for this award. I’d also like to thank Mayor Spano and his entire administration for their support, and to thank the staff of the Department of Engineering for all the hard work they do for the residents of Yonkers,” said Paul Summerfield, City Engineer. “I consider this award an acknowledgment of our joint efforts, and I am delighted to accept it on their behalf.”

Summerfield will be presented his award at the American Society of Civil Engineers Awards Dinner on Wednesday June 21st, 6:30 PM at The Nyack Seaport, 21 Burd Street, Nyack, NY.
