City of Yonkers To Offer Free Aarp Tax Counseling Program to Senior Residents
YONKERS, NY – January 23, 2017 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that the City’s Office for the Aging, together with the Grinton I. Will Branch of the Yonkers Public Library, again will offer a TAX-AIDE program from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). This free service is available from February 1 through April 18, 2017.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is a program that allows for low to moderate income taxpayers, 60 years and older, to have more discretionary income for everyday essentials, such as food and housing, by assisting with tax services and ensuring that those taxpayers receive applicable credits and deductions.
“Paying your taxes can be a stressful and confusing process and we want to make sure we give every effort to provide our senior residents with all of the aid that they qualify for,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “This tax aide program is designed to assist seniors every step of the way.”
Trained volunteer tax counselors will be on hand to assist Yonkers residents who qualify at the following times and locations. No appointment is necessary and residents will be assisted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
