City of Yonkers to Host Home Energy Performance Seminars for Residents
YONKERS, NY – May 17, 2016 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City will host two home energy performance seminars for residents interested in learning how to save money and have a more energy-efficient home. Led by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the two free one-hour seminars will help homeowners lower their energy bills by reducing energy use. The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® seminars will be offered Monday, May 23 from 6-7 p.m. at Riverfront Library and Thursday, June 16 from 6-7 p.m. at Grinton I. Will Library in Yonkers.
“While energy bills are part of the many responsibilities of a homeowner, there also are many smart and efficient ways in which we can curb the burden they have on our pockets,” said Mayor Spano. “Recognizing this, we, along with NYSERDA, are assisting our residents in learning ways to control these costs, stop wasting energy and doing our part in creating a greener Yonkers. I encourage our residents to take part in these eye-opening and resourceful sessions.”
As part of the free program, residents will receive a free- or reduced-cost home energy assessment, which provides a top-to-bottom look at how a home is wasting energy.
“NYSERDA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program is making sure consumers have the information and the tools they need to reduce energy costs by becoming more energy efficient. Home energy efficiency is critically important to Governor Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision strategy to build a clean, resilient and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers,” said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA.
The seminars will be led by Hugo Jule, an Outreach Coordinator for the RUPCO Green Jobs Green New York program. Jule is responsible for promoting residential energy efficiency and renewable energy programs to homeowners, small businesses, municipalities and the Hispanic community in the Mid-Hudson Valley region.
Residents can pre-register for the free May 23 and June 16 seminars via eventbrite. For more information on NYSERDA’s Home Performance ENERGY STAR® program, visit www.nyserda.ny.gov.
