The City of Yonkers is proud to support the installation of solar power systems on homes and businesses. Yonkers partnered with NYSolarSmart and adopted the New York State Unified Solar Permit to streamline and expedite the application process for residential and small business solar installations (12kW or less). Greyston Bakery in Yonkers installed 36 solar panels to produce 10,000 kWh of electricity each year thanks to Green Mountain Energy Sun ClubTM. Each year it’s estimated this 8.82-kilowatt array can avoid 11,800 lbs. of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by not relying on the conventional production of fossil fuel-based electricity. The Sun Club is a unique program enabling residential customers, including many in Yonkers, to provide solar power and educational information to non-profit organizations, like Greyston Foundation.
