Yonkers Preparedness Month

Message from the Mayor

Now is the time to take action and prepare for what hopefully does not come: a superstorm, hurricane, blizzard or other natural disaster. And although we hope it doesn’t happen, we know all too well that it can happen right here in Yonkers. Being as prepared as possible can mitigate the effects caused by emergencies and disasters.

Between YPD, YFD, DPW, the Office of Emergency Management and Empress EMS, we have the best emergency personnel around. Our first responders do everything in their power to keep Yonkers safe, but residents must also take steps to ready their own homes. Below you'll find a list of emergency supplies that every Yonkers family should have in their homes. Review it with your family and make sure you're prepared.

Just as important, we should also be actively thinking of our neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled, who may be especially vulnerable in a time of need. Yonkers is a community that helps each other - that's something I witnessed firsthand during Superstorm Sandy and before that, Irene. Let's continue to help our neighbors and those in need.

- Mayor Mike Spano
