Written Exam

The written examination is designed to evaluate knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in the following areas:

  • Advising and interacting with others.
  • Using logical reasoning to draw valid conclusions.
  • Mechanical reasoning.
  • Understanding and interpreting written material pertaining to fire.

Physical Strength/Agility ExamYFD Recruitment

The physical strength/agility exam is designed to test the ability of the individual to perform, in a reasonable manner, the duties and responsibilities of a Firefighter such as climbing a ladder, pulling a fire hose, and lifting fire equipment. Applicants will have the opportunity to go through the physical strength/agility course before the actual exam. To assist in preparing for the physical portion of the exam, each individual course is demonstrated in a series of videos, provided at the link below.

Applicants who lack sufficient educational qualifications are encouraged to participate in free training courses and receive counseling information for the High School Equivalency Diploma. For more information, please contact the Recruitment Office at (914) 207-2990.
