Commissioner William Schneider, P.E.
William J. Schneider currently serves as Commissioner for the Department of Housing and Buildings for the City of Yonkers under Mayor Mike Spano. Schneider is an accomplished Professional Engineer with extensive experience in the public forum.
Prior to this role, Schneider served as Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Housing and Buildings for 10 years. There, Schneider participated in the development and review of the downtown redevelopment project known as the SFC project, the Ridge Hill project and the redevelopment of Cross County Center.
Schneider spent time with the Westchester County Health Department Bureau of Environmental Quality in positions of Associate Engineer, Program Supervisor and Senior Engineer. Additionally, Schneider served as Environmental Engineer for the Remedial Action Branch of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Schneider graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelors of Civil Engineering. Schneider is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and Connecticut and a New York State Certified Code Enforcement Official. Schneider is trained and certified in several Building Codes of New York State including fire suppression and handicap accessibility, inspection of existing buildings, energy code compliance and green building construction code.
