Amicone Taps Dan Schorr for Yonkers Inspector General
Former DA candidate, prosecutor & corporate attorney will serve as "taxpayers' watchdog"
Posted Date: 1/7/2010

Mayor Phil Amicone today announced his appointment of Dan Schorr, a former prosecutor and corporate finance attorney, as Yonkers' next Inspector General. Schorr was also most recently a candidate for Westchester County District Attorney in 2009.

"I'm pleased to announce my appointment of Dan Schorr as Yonkers Inspector General. Dan's experience as a prosecutor and corporate attorney where he investigated fraud, waste and mismanagement makes him an outstanding choice to lead this office. His no-nonsense approach will make him an excellent advocate for our taxpayers and I look forward to working with him to ensure an efficient and transparent city government," Amicone said.

Mr. Schorr was employed by Morgan Stanley as a Vice President in its Law Division from 2005 to 2008 where he conducted investigations into allegations of fraud and mismanagement within the firm. Prior to that, Mr. Schorr was a prosecutor for seven years in both the Westchester County and Queens County District Attorney's Offices where he prosecuted hundreds of cases in several different divisions.

Mr. Schorr holds an M.A. and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a graduate of the Harvard School of Law.

"I am honored and humbled by Mayor Amicone's confidence in me to serve as Yonkers Inspector General. The IG's office is the independent watchdog for Yonkers taxpayers, overseeing all government agencies and contracts, ensuring that public resources are used properly and efficiently. That is an important and vital responsibility that I will fulfill to the best of my ability," Schorr acknowledged.

The Yonkers Inspector General is an independent, investigative office that works to ensure that city government and all city agencies operate within the law and function with effectiveness, efficiency and transparency. The Inspector General's mission is to aid in the prevention of conduct that undermines the integrity of government by conducting objective and independent audits, reviews and investigations. ??

Pursuant to the Yonkers City Charter, the Inspector General is appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the City Council.

Schorr's nomination was sent to the City Council on Monday and is currently pending before the Council's Rules Committee.

If confirmed, Schorr will fill the remainder of a five-year term that began January 1, 2009 and will expire at the end of 2013. Current Inspector General Phil Zisman's term expired at the end of 2008, but he will continue to serve in that capacity until the City Council confirms a replacement.
