Mayor Spano Presents Riverside High School With School of The Month Award for April 2018
YONKERS, NY – May 3, 2018 – Mayor Spano today joined members of the Yonkers City Council, Board of Education President, Rev. Steve Lopez, members of the Yonkers Federation of Teachers and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edwin M. Quezada to present the School of the Month Award for April 2018 to the deserving administration, faculty, staff, parents and students at Riverside High School. Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Don Solimene, Riverside High School is achieving great success in Engineering and Robotics. Riverside students recently traveled to Detroit, Michigan to compete in the National Robotics Competition. Students are also excelling in the advanced concepts of electrical, mechanical and civil engineering studies at Riverside.
Riverside High School is also extremely active in the My Brother’s Keeper initiative “MBK Yonkers,” and the students credit much of their success to local partnerships with organizations and colleges such as GroundWorks Yonkers, Hudson River Museum, Yonkers Contracting, NYSED, Westchester Community College, Sarah Lawrence College and Manhattan College.
“Congratulations to Riverside High School, the administration, teachers and staff, who all are contributing to our students’ solid educational foundation for the future,” said Mayor Spano. “Riverside High School motivates and inspires our young people to better themselves and others. I applaud the creative environment they’ve established there and wish them continued success.”
Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez remarked, “On behalf of the Yonkers Board of Education Trustees, we congratulate the entire Riverside High School community on receiving this well-deserved award. The students thrive because of the commitment and ongoing support of the administrators, teachers and support staff. I also commend Riverside’s students for being so dedicated and engaged in the MBK Yonkers initiative in Yonkers Public Schools.”
“Riverside High School Principal Dr. Don Solimene, the teachers and staff are providing an enriched and cohesive instructional program,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada. “The success that Riverside is having in Engineering and Robotics is just one example of this dynamic school community where everyone is learning and achieving together.”
Mayor Spano’s School of the Month recognition program began in January 2014 as a way to celebrate the significant academic success, extracurricular achievements and community volunteerism of Yonkers’ students, teachers, administration and staff at Yonkers Public Schools.
