CITY OF YONKERS ANNOUNCES WINTER STORM PREPARATIONS & CLOSURES FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7th

Yonkers, NY – March 6, 2018 – In anticipation of the impending Nor’easter forecasted for Wednesday, March 7th, Mayor Mike Spano today advises residents of the following City storm preparations, including closures:

 Cancellations & Closures:

·         All Yonkers Public Libraries

·         Yonkers Recycling Center

·         All Senior Programs and Senior Centers

·         Day & Evening Rec. Programs at Parks Dept. Community Centers & School Locations

·         Aquatics at Mark Twain

·         Project Friendship/Young Adult Club

·         Pre-K Little Learners

·         Indoor Permit Holders at Yonkers Public Schools

·         Teen Recreation and Adult Open Gyms at Yonkers Public Schools

·         All Programs at the EJ Murray Skating Center

·         Coyne Park Rifle Range

·         Public Hours at the Yonkers Animal Shelter

Warming Station:

·         Nodine Hill Community Center, at 140 Filmore Street, will serve as a Warming Center for Yonkers residents until further notice.  

Parking Restrictions:

·         Alternate side parking rules are suspended Wednesday, March 7; however, residents are encouraged to park their vehicle(s) in their driveway or garage, where possible.

·         Metered parking will remain in effect on Wednesday, March 7.

·         There is no parking on “Snow Emergency Routes.”  Vehicles may be towed at owner’s expense.  To view snow emergency routes, Click Here.

Recycling & Garbage Collection:

·         Recycling collection (paper and cardboard) for Wednesday, March 7th is cancelled.    

Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and remove vehicles from city streets wherever possible.
