Yonkers, NY- January 25, 2018- Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader along with councilwoman Shanae Williams will host a CAREERS IN TRADES Workshop on Saturday, February 10th from 12 to 2 P.M. at the Yonkers Riverfront Library community room on the 2nd floor.

“The idea of this workshop is to give students who may not be looking to go to college the opportunity to explore other available career paths to earn decent wages,” said City Council President Mike Khader. “Whether it be electricians or construction workers, the city of Yonkers deeply appreciates and relies greatly on the men and women who choose a trades career.”

“Having a career in trades is not something everyone in our community knows is an option,“ said councilwoman Shanae Williams. “We want to help people find good jobs so that they can continue to live and work here in Yonkers. College is great, but it is not for everyone. Let’s continue to find ways to enrich our city.”

There are currently more than 7 thousand high school students attending Yonkers Public Schools. It is a priority of this administration to ensure that each and every student is aware of their post graduate opportunities.

Participants will have an opportunity to go from table to table to speak with union members, gather literature and ask questions.

Participating Unions Include:

Local 3

Teamsters Local 456

Local 60

Westchester/Putnam Building Trades

Northeast Carpenters

Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union 38
