Mayor Spano to Recognize Yonkers Homeowners For Their Exceptional Home Landscaping in Annual “Curb Appeal Awards”

YONKERS, NY – August 8, 2017 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City is now accepting nominations for its annual “Mayor Spano’s Curb Appeal Awards,” which recognizes Yonkers homeowners for their homes’ exceptional curb appeal and charming landscape. The City is accepting nominations today through Friday, September 8, 2017 at www.yonkersny.gov/curbappeal.

“Yonkers is known for its unique and diverse landscape and so many of our neighborhoods reflect that uniqueness,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “The Curb Appeal Awards are a way to recognize the beauty in our City and acknowledge the hard work of those who take pride in their community and strive each season to make their homes beautiful.”

Residents can nominate a Yonkers homeowner for Mayor Mike Spano’s Curb Appeal Award in one of three categories: 

·         Landscaping 

·         Exterior Improvement 

·         Creativity/Originality

Photos of the home and its surroundings should be submitted along with a brief description of the candidate’s property.

Criteria for the Mayor Spano’s Curb Appeal Award include:

  • The property has a pleasant appearance, is well-maintained and contributes to the community appearance
  • A strong effort was made to improve and enhance the appearance of the property 
  • The property owner demonstrates creativity and originality in the property’s layout
  • The property clearly stands out as an attractive property in its neighborhood

Mayor Spano added, “If one person takes pride in their home, it motivates others to do the same and the result is a more appealing Yonkers. These awards are an opportunity to exhibit our pride in our city and continue to enhance its appearance.”

As part of their citywide recognition, homeowners will be provided a lawn sign for their property, recognizing their distinction. Mayor Spano first presented the Curb Appeal Awards in 2013.
