MAYOR SPANO PRESENTS SCHOOL 9 WITH SCHOOL OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR FEBRUARY 2017
YONKERS, NY – March 17, 2017 – Mayor Spano this week joined members of Yonkers City Council and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin M. Quezada to present the School of the Month Award for February 2017 to the deserving administration, faculty, staff, parents and students at School 9.
School 9 has coupled with the Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Jim Bostic along with the Director of the Healthy Schools initiative, Cheryl Brennan, to transform each and every one of the students’ lives, one healthy decision at a time, in hopes of leaving an everlasting impact that will promote cognitive learning abilities as well as healthy physical and mental states.
“Congratulations to School 9, the administration, teachers, staff and parents, who all are contributing to our students’ solid educational foundation,” said Mayor Spano. “Collaborating with Dr. Jim Bostic and the Nepperhan Community Center has given our students an additional valuable resource where they can discover and practice a more positive and healthy lifestyle. I applaud the nurturing environment they’ve established with School 9 and wish them continued success.”
Mayor Spano’s School of the Month recognition program began in January 2014 as a way to celebrate the significant academic success, extracurricular achievements and community volunteerism of Yonkers’ students, teachers, administration and staff at Yonkers Public Schools.
