Mayor Spano Appoints Helen Aggrey as Yonkers Second Deputy Corporation Counsel

YONKERS, NY – January 18, 2017 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that Helen Aggrey has been appointed the City of Yonkers second Deputy Corporation Counsel. Yonkers City Council approved Aggrey’s appointment (7-0) at its stated meeting last evening. Aggrey will be the first-ever female African-American serving as the Deputy Corporation Counsel. Aggrey has nearly a decade’s worth of legal experience – recently serving as an Associate within the City of Yonkers Corporation Counsel.    

"Helen will bring her impressive list of credentials to our department coupling it with her extraordinary legal abilities to negotiate contracts as well as her on-the-job experiences and in-depth knowledge of the workings of the law department. Helen will prove to be exceptional at her new position and we are happy to have someone as capable and savvy as her as our second Deputy Corporation Counsel,” said Mayor Spano.

As second deputy corporation counsel, Aggrey will be positioned at the Yonkers Board of Education and tasked with the responsibility of providing counsel to the Board on a variety of matters relating to policy, procedure, contracts and the daily operation of the school district. In addition, Aggrey will manage the Board’s legal team consisting of attorneys and other legal aides, and will be responsible for the legal day to day operations, as well as managing various negotiations and cases.

Aggrey will serve as the second Deputy Corporation Counsel behind first Deputy Corporation Counsel, Karen Ramos and will continue to report to City Corporation Counsel, Michael Curti.
