Mayor Spano Unveils New Smart Phone Parking App & Machines To Modernize City Parking
YONKERS, NY – August 2, 2016 – Mayor Mike Spano today announced a dual partnership with Parkmobile and Parkeon that will allow customers to use their mobile phones to pay for parking throughout the City of Yonkers. Patrons can now pay for parking via smart phone using Parkmobile’s mobile applications for the iPhone, Android, Windows 7, and Blackberry smartphones. In addition, Yonkers has installed 33 wireless and solar powered Parkeon machines that accept coins, bills, debit cards, credit cards and most importantly, are compatible with the Parkmobile phone app.
“We are always looking to provide more innovative programs for our residents,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “With Parkmobile, if you decide to go shopping or grab a bite to eat, you will be able to add more time directly from your phone without going back to the meter. This phone app, along with the convenience of the state of the art Parkeon parking machines, will make parking easier in Yonkers and I’m excited to add this technology to our city services.”
To use the new Parkmobile system, customers register free at www.parkmobile.com. Once registered, they can use a mobile app, internet, or call toll free to pay for parking. After setting up their account, customers can immediately begin using the system with their registered mobile device. Enforcement officers will be able to see that a motorist has paid with Parkmobile using a wireless handheld device. Mobile app users may also choose to receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior to expiration of their parking session. Time limits on meters still apply and the app will not allow users to purchase more time than allotted by the meters.
Over 30 older parking machines have been replaced by the brand new Parkeon machines which have been installed throughout the downtown area. Parkeon machines have also been added to the Walsh Lot on Palisade Avenue, Belmont Avenue, the Radford Lot and Engine Lot #10 in Chicken Island. In addition, over 3,000 city parking spaces have been deemed compatible with Parkmobile payment methods, with more spaces to follow in the coming months.
“Parkmobile is honored to partner with a city that is a progressive city,” said Jon Ziglar, CEO of Parkmobile. “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Yonkers to offer this technology, which enhances the parking experience by eliminating the need to swipe a card or feed coins to a meter.
