Fire Department Since 2012
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Yonkers Fire Department Commissioner John Darcy announced this week that the City has made major investments in the Yonkers Fire Department by purchasing new apparatus for the City's busy Fire Station 3 on Vark Street. The new Engine 303 and Tower Ladder 71 were manufactured by Ferrara Fire Apparatus and replace equipment that was more than 16 years old.
"Our firefighters and fire officers put their lives on the line to protect life and property in Yonkers," said Mayor Mike Spano. "They deserve the very best equipment and that is why my Administration is committed to making the investments to better protect those who keep us safe."
Over the last four years, Mayor Spano's Administration has made more than $10 million of capital investments in the Fire Department, including new apparatuses, protective equipment such as bunker gear and helmets, new tools and hoses to fight fires and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Yonkers #StopAndShake Initiative Marks One Year Anniversary
Stop and Shake Strengthens Community and Police Relations Through Handshakes
One year ago, Yonkers Police launched Stop & Shake, a community-wide initiative that aims to strengthen relations between police officers and the public through the simple act of shaking hands. Over the past year, we've watched as Stop and Shake took off across the City. When you walk down the street past an officer, we're encouraging you to stop and greet them, shake hands and find common ground where you might ordinarily have not.
"Stop and Shake embodies what Yonkers is all about. We are a community of more than 100 nationalities working together for a better future and that starts with a greeting and a conversation," said Mayor Mike Spano.
The Yonkers Police Department observed the anniversary of Stop & Shake with an awards ceremony.
