Mayor Spano, Police Department and Yonkers Youth Launch Yonkers Police Youth Coalition
Coalition Aims to Strengthen Relationship Between Young People and the Yonkers Police Department
Mayor Mike Spano, Police Commissioner Charles Gardner and YMCA CEO Shawn Patterson-Howard joined dozens of students at Yonkers Middle High School this week to launch a new initiative aimed to improve relationships between the Yonkers Police Department and the community they serve, particularly young adults.
"Police-community relations is a topic that's front and center in the national conversation, so it's important that we have that conversation in Yonkers too," Mayor Mike Spano said. "What makes this coalition so special is that it's a group by kids and for kids."

The Yonkers Police Youth Coalition is led and run by local Yonkers youth in partnership with the YPD. The Coalition seeks to create an ongoing, open dialogue between young people and Police Officers through regular, informal meetings and outings. This program builds upon a series of successful youth-oriented programs run by Yonkers Police Department.

Learn About Yonkers Green City Sustainability Efforts
With the U.N. meeting in Paris to discuss climate change, we're taking a look at how the City of Yonkers is improving the environment at home.
As part of Mayor Spano's Yonkers Green City Initiative, we've streamlined solar permitting. As a result, there were more solar rooftops installed in the last four years than ever before in Yonkers. We're also reducing our carbon footprint with a fleet of Smart Cars, operated by employees in the Public Works, Buildings, Parks and Engineering Departments.
Yonkers Green City is a community-led initiative comprised of thousands of individuals, businesses and government officials that help grow a more attractive, healthy and vibrant city for current and future generations inhabitants of our City.
